Insurance: Reenactment events do not allow “walk-ons”. Due to safety and liability issues, all participants need to belong to a group that provides liability insurance to its members. By joining CMLHA, you are insured against harm caused to others at reenactment events which have been voted onto our schedule and registered with the event sponsor. You will not be covered for events which CMLHA has not voted into the schedule or events for which CMLHA is not registered.
CMLHA follows a 3 legged stool principle of reenacting:
- The first leg is safety. Reenacting involves working with fires, guns, blades, and out in open environments. You may well get hurt, and nobody needs that. If you don’t pay attention to safety, you are doing it wrong.
- The second leg is authenticity. You shouldn’t take unwarranted shortcuts when experiencing and demonstrating history unless it is unsafe to do otherwise. If you don’t pay attention to authenticity, you aren’t doing it right.
- The last leg is to have fun. There is a great joy in learning how things were done or showing others about history. Simply put, if you aren’t having fun, why are you doing it?
All three of these principles are a balancing act, but if you keep all three in mind, you will have a firm foundation and experience the joy of reenacting to its fullest
